Iowa Regional Utilities Association (IRUA) believes every member should be able to see where their water comes from and how it performed over the past year. That’s why IRUA publishes yearly water quality reports, also known as Consumer Confidence Reports, for the water systems it serves. This page explains what the reports cover, which systems they include, how to read one, and where to find IRUA’s service line inventories. The reports themselves are listed below.
IRUA is a private, not-for-profit association owned by its members. Property owners who receive service are part-owners, and IRUA provides drinking water to its members at cost. Sharing clear, yearly information about your water is part of that relationship. The reports are one more way IRUA keeps members informed and prepared, so you never have to wonder where your water comes from.
A Consumer Confidence Report, often shortened to CCR, is IRUA’s yearly report on drinking water quality. It’s written for members and gives you a clear, organized look at your water. Each report includes:
Reports are published once a year. Each one covers the previous calendar year, so the reports published in 2026 share data from 2025. When you open a report, check the reporting year first so you know which period it describes.
IRUA serves a large area, and not every part of it gets water from the same place. That’s why there is more than one report. Look for the report that matches the system serving your property:
For the main system, each supplier draws from its own source. Newton’s supply comes from a Jordan well and 21 shallow alluvial wells along the South Skunk River, and it is softened before it reaches IRUA. Marshalltown’s supply comes from the Mississippian aquifer and is softened using a lime soda-ash process. At Waverly, IRUA produces its own supply using reverse osmosis. IRUA’s rural water service delivers treated, softened water at about 6 to 8 grains of hardness.

Water quality reports include some technical terms, but you don’t need a science background to understand them. Here’s a simple way to work through yours:
Questions about the main system’s report can go to Mike Wildung, IRUA’s Operations and Distribution Manager, at 641-792-7011. For more about where IRUA’s water comes from and how it’s treated, visit the Water Quality page.
Alongside the yearly reports, IRUA publishes service line inventories, sometimes called lead and copper service line inventories. Here’s what you need to know:
If the inventory lists your service line as UN or UB, you can help IRUA complete its records by sharing the actual material of your line. Contact IRUA and we’ll show you how to submit that information. Your information helps keep the records accurate and complete.
