Autopay is the simplest way to stay on top of your water bill. With autopay through Iowa Regional Utilities Association (IRUA), your payment comes out automatically on your due date, so there are no checks to mail and no dates to track. Here’s how it works and how to sign up.

Why Members Choose Autopay

  • No fee from checking. Autopay by ACH withdrawal from your checking account is free.
  • Right on time. Your payment comes out on your due date or the next business day.
  • Nothing to remember. With cycle billing, your bill is due on the first, second, third or fourth Friday of the month, depending on your billing cycle. Autopay takes care of it for you.
  • Peace of mind. If your balance is $0, no withdrawal is made.

Is Autopay Required?

For accounts opened after August 1, 2024, yes. New customers enroll in either automatic ACH withdrawal or recurring card payments. If your account opened before then, autopay is a convenient option you can add whenever you’re ready.

Your Autopay Options

ACH Withdrawal From Your Checking Account

This is IRUA’s no-fee autopay option. Your bill is paid directly from your checking account on your due date or the next business day. You can enroll through the customer portal, the AutoPay Enrollment e-sign form or a printed form.

Recurring Card Payments

You can also set up recurring payments by debit or credit card through the customer portal. Card payments made online or by phone include a convenience fee of $1.75 or 2.5% of the total payment amount.

What to Have Ready

Enrolling goes quickly when you have a few things on hand:

  • Your 5-digit account number. You’ll find it on your bill. If it shows only 4 digits, add a 0 to the beginning.
  • The phone number on your account. You’ll need it to register for the customer portal.
  • Your checking account details for no-fee ACH autopay, or your debit or credit card for recurring card payments.
  • Your current balance. Check whether anything is due now so you can pay it directly before autopay begins.

Three Ways to Enroll

  1. Online through the customer portal. Log in at irua.epayub.com and enroll in autopay. First time? Register with your 5-digit account number and the phone number on your account. If your bill shows only 4 digits, add a 0 to the beginning.
  2. With the AutoPay Enrollment e-sign form. Find it on our Forms & Documents page. After you sign, watch for a verification email and confirm it, because the form isn’t submitted until you do.
  3. With a printed form. Fill out a printed AutoPay Enrollment form and return it by email to info@irua.net or by mail to 1351 Iowa Speedway Drive, Newton, IA 50208.

How Autopay Works

Here’s what to expect once you’re enrolled:

  • Timing. Your payment is withdrawn on your due date or the next business day.
  • Enroll before your due date. If your enrollment reaches us too close to your due date, autopay begins with the following billing cycle. In that case, please pay that month’s bill another way.
  • Existing balances. Autopay doesn’t pull a balance that’s already on your account right away. That balance waits until the next calendar month’s cycle, so paying it directly now helps you avoid late fees.
  • $0 balance. If you don’t owe anything, nothing is withdrawn.
  • Your due date. Each statement shows your due date and cycle number, so you always know when your payment will come out.

Paying Before Autopay Begins

If you need to make a payment while your enrollment gets started, IRUA offers plenty of options:

  • Online through the customer portal, as a one-time payment or with Quick Pay
  • By phone with a debit or credit card at 641-321-3646
  • By mail with a check or money order sent to our Newton office (please don’t mail cash)
  • In our drop box in the office circle drive, with your account number written on your payment or your bill stub included
  • In person at our Newton office by card, check or money order
  • Through your bank’s bill-pay service

Card payments online or by phone, e-checks and Quick Pay payments include a convenience fee of $1.75 or 2.5% of the total payment amount. E-checks are accepted only through the portal.

Keep Your Autopay Running Smoothly

  • Contact our office if your bank account or card changes, and we’ll help you keep payments on track.
  • Review your billing and usage history in the customer portal whenever you like.
  • Save 641-321-3646 in your contacts. It’s our pay-by-phone and automated alerts line.

Pair Autopay With Paperless Statements

Autopay works even better alongside the other tools in the customer portal. Paperless statements reach you sooner than paper bills, giving you more time to review your bill before your payment comes out. Sign up in the portal, or email info@irua.net with your account number from the email address that should receive your statements. You can also opt in to text notifications in the portal to stay informed.
